This world is dedicated to my fav sci fi books. I will give a synopsis of each story, or series, but will not give out the main details, so that you may read them, and enjoy each book properly.

DINO SAPIENS

The book everybody is talking about; a really great read. I have yet to read it, but can't wait to. Ask around for it, until you find it.

JP

by Micheal Crichton

Jurassic Park is about a millionaire who hires genectists to clone dinosaurs back to life from DNA found in bugs trapped in amber. He then puts them in an amusement park for all the world to see. However, the dinosaurs prove dangerous, and the investors begin to worry. So he brings three endorsers, one lawyer, and his two grandchildren to visit and say how safe and wonderful the place is. Unfortunately, a disgruntled employee tries to steal some dino embryos to sell to a rival company, and he temporarily shuts down the park. The dinosaurs escape, and the employee is killed. The kids and the paleontologist are stranded in the park after narrowly escaping a Tyrannosaurus Rex attack, and must make their way back through the park, with all the loose dinos. Meanwhile, the rest of the visitors must contend with recapturing the escaped dinos, as well as an attack by Velociraptors, the smartest, most dangerous dinos in the park. Making it back, the kids are attacked by the Raptors, who have learned to open up doors, making no place safe. What ensues is a building wide fight for survival, with two species who never met before, both trying to survive.

INTERSTELLAR PIG

by William Sleator

A young man named Barney is vacationing at his beach home when mysterious new neighbors move in. Befriending the three newcomers, he joins them in their favorite game, Interstellar Pig. The game's about this charm like object, the Interstellar Pig, which has a real ugly face on it, which various different alien races via for possession of. The race who posses the pig wen the timer runs out wins, and the losers home world is vaporized. Each race is represented by a card which you pick, and then you play as that race. Other cards offer weapons, armors, medicine/other potions, vehicles, etc. It even comes with a lengthy book outlining the different races/objects in the game, including skills, abilities, intelligence (the lower the better), etc. The board itself seems to have twinkling stars on it (basically, the game is more advanced than any board game. Almost like a real universe is contained on the board.) One day, Barney accompanies the three to a nearby island, and secretly finds the real Interstellar Pig. His three mysterious friends seem very depressed about their uneventful day. Then, on a rainy day, they play another game, an coincidentally enough, the three friends select the same species as the last few games they played. Worse, Barney selects a card with a picture of himself on it. That's when he learns that the game is all too real, that alien races are in pursuit of the pig, and have landed on Earth. Complicating matter is the knowledge that this is still the first game being played, and Earth has just been brought into play. But then Barney talks with the Pig and learns the awful truth about it. For the Pig doesn't offer safety to the possessor. The species who owns the Interstellar Pig when time runs out will have their world destroyed. And time is almost up.

This is a very good sci fi book. It has a great plot, with lots of twists. The best twists come at the end, as you learn just what the Pig truly is.

THE TRIPOD TRILOGY

by John Christopher

These books were The White Mountains; The City of Gold and Lead; and The Pool of Fire. The series is about a future time, when aliens have taken over. They travel around in giant robotic tripods, since they can't breathe our air. The aliens cap people, to ensure total loyalty. But that only happens when people reach a certain age, around 13. So one boy and his cousin escape their town to reach the White Mountains, where a secret resistance is said to be. A long the way, they meet another boy, and the three of them try to avoid the Tripods and reach safety. It is eventually learned that the aliens live in cities of gold and lead, which, like the tripods, contains their own air, and humans, in masks, are chosen to be slaves. The cities are powered by pools of fire. Though the resistance does penetrate the cities, a new wave of alien conquerors is heading for Earth. Will the good guys be able to stop their rulers and free their people? Or will the new armada put a stop to the rebellions for all of time?

Also of note: This trilogy takes place in Europe, near France, and some other country.

THE HITCHHIKER'S GUIDE

by Douglas Adams

This series follows the adventures of Earthman Arthur Dent, and his alien friend Ford Prefect, as they travel about the galaxy, and through time. Ford works for the Guide, which makes the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy, an electronic book designed to guide beings' journeys through the galaxy. Stranded for 15 years on Earth, Ford befriends Arthur, and rescues him right before the Earth is destroyed to make room for a new hyperspace off ramp. Then they meet up with Ford's cousin Zaphod Beeblebrox, ex president of the galaxy, and his Earth girlfriend, Trillian, who have stolen a new spaceship. The four eventually find an alien who helped make the Earth, and learn of it's true purpose, and how it was destroyed 5 minutes before it completed that purpose. Heading through time, they go to eat at the restaurant at the end of the universe, which was built to make money off of the destruction of the universe (each night. it goes backwards and forwards through time.) If that wasn't enough, the team gets separated and Ford and Arthur go back into Earth's past, where a colony of moronic aliens arrive on Earth, and who are discovered to be the rue forefathers of man.

As the series goes on, Ford and Arthur escape the past, meet up with the co-creator of the Earth, and reluctantly join him in his quest to stop the total eradication of all life in the universe. What that's all about is millions of years ago, the citizens of an isolated planet found out that they weren't alone in space, and so decided to destroy everyone else. After thousands of years of war, they were sealed in an envelope of slow time, to await the end of the universe, so they can continue to exist alone. But one ship of robots escapes, and destroys the key, whose pieces fall through time. Now in the present, the good guys must find a way to stop the robots from reforming the key, and releasing their masters, to continue the war.

Next, Arthur learns that the Earth has somehow reformed, and heads back home. There he discovers a gift left by the dolphins, who have all disappeared, and finds a girlfriend. Together, they head out into the galaxy to learn of God's final message to his creation (I personally found it rather comforting, and gained a short moment of peace, after learning what it was.) Finally, in the last novel, Arthur finds himself stranded in another universe, an since Earth is uninhabitable, he crashes onto another world, and becomes Chief Sandwich Maker. life is good, until the Trillian of his universe arrives with their daughter, Random, that Trillian had made, who is a troubled teen. Adding to that, Ford discovers that Guide has been bought out by a company that wants to sell one guide, over and over again, throughout all of space and time. Stealing the new Guide, Ford sends it to Arthur for safe keeping. But Random steals it, and heads out into another universe. Following her, Ford and Arthur find her just as the Guide's true purpose is revealed.

This series is a sci fi comedy series. It has been adapted many times, in many formats, and each new version and book contradicts everything else. Note: it seems that throughout his journeys through time and space, Arthur has been unwittingly killing the same being over and over again. Every time he is reincarnated, Arthur ends up killing him yet again. Also of note: one of the funnier parts about the series was the search for The Ultimate Question To Life, The Universe, And Everything. For with the learning of this question, everyone can finally understand the significance to the Ultimate Answer Of Life, The Universe, And Everything, which is: 42.

Ironically, in reality, the search for the Hubble Constant (which determines the actual age of the universe), is believed to be somewhere between like 10-50, making 42 more true of an answer than Douglas Adams ever thought.

THE UPLIFT SAGA

by David Brin

These stories take place in the future. They are about a universe where it is impossible to evolve to the point of traveling to the stars. Instead, a star faring race must "Uplift" another species to full sapiency. It all started when the first oxygen breathing race (there are also hydrogen breathers, and machines), the Progenitors, made the impossible leap from animal to sentient life form. They then began the process of Uplift, and made laws to govern it's races. They found animals on worlds exhibiting pre-sapient behavior (simple tool making, rudimentary language, etc.), and genetically engineered them to become intelligent, and capable of flying through the stars (all in return for 100,000 years of indentured service). The Progenitors created many Institutions to enforce their laws. Laws which protected client species being uplifted, laws which allowed planets to rest, with no sapient life allowed to live on them, until they could recover from the effects of civilization, and create new pre-sapient life, laws to govern war, and various other laws. They also created the Great Library, which housed all the info any patron and /or client species discovered. Then one day, the Progenitors left, vowing to one day return when they were needed once more. Galactic life went on, with patrons uplifting clients. The only real drawback was that the galaxies eventually separated.

About 2 billion years later, they're are only 5 galaxies left. Some very nasty aliens rule, and many factions exist. Then one day, humans accidentally stumble upon a transfer point (a short cut through space), and meet up with galactic life. This causes great tension in the universe, for humans have no known patrons, and claim to have uplifted themselves. Due to various other factors, humanity only has three alien clans on their side, and several sworn death enemies, angered that these wolflings (a species with no known patron, doomed to a very quick extinction) claim to have uplifted themselves. So now, humanity fights to survive in a universe that barely even recognizes them as fully developed, and frowns upon their two client species, Neo-chimps and Neo-dolphins.

Then one day, the first dolphin crewed spaceship, Streaker, while on a simple mission to verify the Great Library's listings, accidentally discovers something that sends the whole Civilization of the Five Galaxies into an uproar. Every clan wants to capture the ship, and debrief the crew. Earth comes under attack, and all of Earthclan is in danger of extinction. Adding to that, all Galactic Law has fallen, and now wild factions call the shots, with most of the clans in a noninvolvement mood. So, the Streaker begins it's never ending game of cat and mouse, hiding from aliens who want to capture them, and undoubtedly destroy them. Though there are rumors about what their discovery truly is, one fact remains certain. A great change is at hand, and only 1/10th of the 10,000 species living in the 5 Galaxies will survive into the next great phase of history.

STARTIDE RISING

The first dolphin crewed spaceship, Streaker, makes a startling discovery, that sends the Civilization Of The Five Galaxies into turmoil. Galactic Law has fallen, most clans don't want tog et involved, and the worst aliens have formed factions which want to capture Streaker and keep her secrets all for themselves. So Streaker goes on the run. Eventually, she arrives on Kithrup, a watery planet poisonous to the dolphins and small human crew. Adding to that, the factions have located them, and now battle high above, for the right to capture and debrief the Streaker crew. Worse, a mutiny occurs onboard, and the Captain is badly wounded. The only good news is that a new presapient life form, the Kiqui, has been discovered. Will the Streaker's crew survive a hostile environment, a mutiny, and an experiment gone horribly wrong? Will the Galactics capture the Streaker? What will become of the Kiqui? Just what is it that the Streaker has found? Note: In this story, humanity's true patrons are revealed.

THE UPLIFT WAR

A bird like race, the Gubru, has taken over the Earth colony on Garth. They plan on holding it's populace hostage in exchange for Streaker's secret. They send out robots to incapacitate all humans with a gas. Then the Gubru decide that humans have been mistreating the Neo-chimps, and they demand that the chimps be given to them to be adopted into their clan. Garth's government goes into hiding, and some Neo-chimps go to work for the Gubru. So it is up to one human soldier, his alien friend, and an army of Neo-chimps to defeat the invaders, restore peace, and return Garth to it's rightful owners. Will they win? Will the Gubru get Streaker and her secrets? Who will become patron to the presapient life forms discovered? Are the presapients the legendary Garthlings, back form extinction (the old owners of Garth went crazy and killed all animals who could one day become clients)? Will the presapients be able to do what no presapient has done in living galactic memory, and rarely is done, even throughout all of galactic history? Note: Startide Rising and The Uplift War were published together, in one volume, under the title of Earthclan.

THE JIJO SAGA

Note: The following three novels are part of a new Uplift Trilogy, which I have dubbed the Jijo Saga. Over the past 2,000 years, seven sapient races have settled on the fallow (no one can live on it) world of Jijo. There, they each hope to travel the Path Of Redemption, where they'll become simple pre-sapients again. Or else they, and each of their whole races, will be greatly punished by the Institutes. For 2,000 years these illegal sooners have survived. Eventually uniting together in peace, and having one race travel far along the Path, the Commons of the Six Races lead happy lives, trying to protect Jijo as much as they can from their own existence on her (like living only on one area, called the Slope, and using biodegradable materials), and dreading the great "Judgment Day." Until a spaceship bursts forth from the sky, bringing the only thing worse than the great Galactic Judges: Total annihilation of the Six races.

Here is a list of the seven races of Jijo, in order of their arrival:

g'Keks - small wheeled creatures with 4 eyes atop of stalks. The first sooner race on Jijo. Came to Jijo so their species may live, since the Jophur wanted to render their species extinct.

Traeki - creatures made up of rings on a cone, each ring with it's own consciousness). They have assumed the role of pharmacists. Came to Jijo to avoid being transformed into Jophur, aggressive versions of Traekies, ruled by a Master Ring.

Glavers - the only race to journey far long the Path Of Redemption. Came to Jijo because of breach of contract with another race, one which they couldn't pay the penalties for.

Qheuens - 5 legged creatures, like giant crabs. They used to be the only smiths tot he Urs came, and the Gray colored ones ruled over the Blue and Red ones. Came to Jijo so the Grays could continue enslaving the others.

Hoons - Big strong creatures, who have become sailors. Came to Jijo for mysterious reasons, but claim they have already achieved their goal. I take that hint to mean they just wanted to sail the seas once more, not the stars.

Urs - 4 legged creatures, who live only 25 years, and have become smiths. The females are warriors. The men are small, and do nothing. Came to Jijo to be able to breed freely.

Humans - the last sooner race. They freed the Blue and Red Qheuens, and started the Great Printing, bringing back paper books. They claim the Commons need to become spiritually ready to devolve before they can physically devolve. Came to Jijo to survive, but tell a different story to the other 6 races. What's more, they never once planned to travel the Path like the others, and brought books to keep themselves educated over the years. Had to lie in order to ensure survival on Jijo.

BRIGHTNESS REEF

Over the past 2,000 years, 7 races have illegally settled on Jijo. A crime they expect to pay for one day. Their only hope is the Path of Redemption, becoming simple animals again. If not, their respective races face dire consequences. For centuries, the different race fought. Finally they achieved peace. One race even journeyed far along the Path. The Commons of the Six Races lived happy lives, caring for their adoptive home, and worshipping the Great Egg, a giant rock formation shaped like an egg, with strange powers, seemingly a gift of forgiveness from Jijo herself. Then one day, during their annual Festival to reaffirm the Great Peace, and journey to the Holy Egg, a spaceship lands right in the midst of the Six. Everybody fears that Judgment Day has finally arrived. However, they soon learn that the ship brings something far worse than Galactic Judges. Gene raiders have come to steal any presapient life forms they can find. And they will destroy the Six to cover their tracks.

As the different main characters are introduced, each one sets off on a different adventure. One human, Lark, deals with the aliens first hand. His brother, Dwer, is given the job of taming a newly discovered sooner band (people who have left the Commons and the Slope to live in illegal parts of Jijo), and discover that the aliens have reached the band first. Their sister, Sara, finds a badly injured stranger, who is believed to be from the stars, and comes up with a plan to protect the Six Races. The Traeki High Sage (leader of the Traeki sept), Asx, narrates how the aliens and Six get along at the Festival. And 4 alien children build a bathy to explore the bottom of the sea, and stumble into the greatest adventure of their lives, straight out of the Earth books that they love to read.

Over time, the Six races learn that the aliens are human, having arrived with a race called the Rothen, who claim to be humanity's long lost patrons. Sara comes up with a plan to protect the Sixers, and eventually captured by rebels. Dwer and his 3 human allies tangle with an alien robot. Sara, some friends, and the starman are captured by a human/urs band of rebels, who want to trade the starman to the aliens in return for survival. The 4 children find themselves on some great ship beneath the sea, inhabited by strange beings. Then things get worse when a human reveals a Rothen secret, causing a great battle between the six races and the aliens. After the battle, the Rothen ship returns just in time to be captured by an even bigger alien ship. Once again, the fear of Judgment Day spreads amongst the sooners. Once again, the ship brings something far worse: The Jophur (one of the worst alien races of all). And they're in a really bad mood.

INFINITY'S SHORE

The Jophur have landed, and they begin plans to Jophurize the Traeki, starting with Asx. They also have a vendetta against the g'Keks, and plan to kill the last remaining tribe in the universe. Sara and company, finally free, start work on a different plan to save the Commons. Lark discovers and reveals the truth of the Rothen, and converts one of the Daniks (the humans who serve the Rothens.) Together, they work to free the captured Rothen ship's crew, and find cures to diseases that the Rothen unleashed to destroy the six races. Until the Jophur capture them. Dwer tries to find some way to survive against the sudden appearance of aliens, who will not treat him well. The Jophur begin destroying sooner towns all over the Slope, when the Sages refuse to reveal the location of their prey, who the Sages know nothing about. Also, the Jophur reveal how Galactic Law is no more, and that they are now the Sixers' Judges, with cooperation their only hope for survival. And the kids befriend the strange creatures, learning that they are onboard the Streaker, still on the run from the fanatics, and that both the Rothen and Jophur have come in search of them. Teaming up, they rescue Dwer, and capture several Jophur prisoners, and one Danik, who could reveal a dolphin traitor. Eventually, Streaker and the Sixers team up, and plan a daring escape for the dolphin crewed ship. Some dolphins stay behind with all of the Kiqui, and some members of all 6 races, plus the Glavers, join Streaker on her quest for survival. The star man is revealed to be a Streaker crew member, and an eigth sooner race is discovered living in secret on Jijo. The truth about their Holy Egg is revealed, and one human discovers the real reason why so many races sought shelter on Jijo.

HEAVEN'S REACH

Streaker escapes from Jijo, with the Jophur in hot pursuit. Still being hunted by everyone, the Streaker is forced to Transcend, along with the Jophur. Now the Erathship has a chance to discover the answer to the ultimate question, what comes next in life. And that answer involves all the other life orders around. And the the Transcerndants have a plan to use Streaker as a message to the unknown, to try an contact others in a galaxy not part of The Civilization Of Five Galaxies. The Jijoan kids are sent into Civilization, to deliver Streakers secrets to Earth, and to find a way to their ancestors homeworld, while Dwer and Rety get a taste of civilization as well, teaming up with a Neo Chimp and a Synthian trader. The Sooners of Jijo begin to change their destiny by doing the one thing their ancestors gave up long ago to hide on Jijo. Finally, a Time Of Changes is at hand, and the Civilization Of The Five Galaxies will never be the same. In fact, the Five Galaxies cannot survive what is about to happen.
