This show is about two genetically altered lab mice trying to take over the world. Brain is the leader. He is super smart. Pinky is his stupid sidekick. Each night, Brain comes up with a new plan, which generally involves needing lots of money, so he and Pinky set out to earn the money he needs, wearing some disguise, and assuming new identities (though he usually reveals the truth to anybody who asks about what they are doing.) Pinky usually screws up the plans somehow.
Although he is trying to take over the world, Brain is actually a good guy, er, mouse. He is actually, in fact, competing against his ex-friend, Snowball, to rule the world. Snowball is a genetically altered hamster, who is evil. Whereas Brian would rule the world just and fairly, improving people's lives, Snowball has proven himself to be the evil dictator type.
Pinky is known for his many strange words. Here is a list of all he has used (click on some to hear him speak. All are in WAV format:
Fjord (only in two episodes)
Hark (only in one episode)
Natch (only in one episode)
Loob (only in a few Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain episodes)
Meat (only in one Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain episode.)
The best part is when the Brain goes "Pinky, are you pondering what I'm pondering?" And Pinky replies with utter stupidity, i.e.: "I think so Brain. But what if the chicken won't wear nylons?" Hear it for yourself.
This is a very good show. It even has some educational songs in it (though not enough), and the Christmas special even won an Emmy. NARF!
The show has now become Pinky, Elmyra, and the Brain. It seems Acme Labs is sold (destroyed or temporarily bankrupted, there have been several reasons for the new change); our fav mousey duo go to a pet store, and are bought by Elmyra Duff herself (from Tiny Toon Adventures fame.) Now, they must first escape her to complete their plans, and she will interfere too (but not always.) The rumor goes that fans wanted both new P&B episodes, and new Tiny Toon Adventures, so the powers that be made this compromise. All in all, the show is watchable, but lacks that certain something the original had.

This is a show about 4 baby pet store turtles who get mutated into half human, half turtles, and learn the art of ninjitsu to survive. They are taught by Splinter, a ninja master who was mutated into a rat. They fight the Shredder (the one responsible for their mutations), and Krang, and evil brain who was banished from his home dimension, Dimension X.
The Turtles consist of:
Leonardo - their leader. He wears blue and chosen weapon are the Katana blades, which are swords.
Donatello - the genius. He invents all sorts of useful devices to aid their fight to protect the world. Don wears purple, and uses a Bo, a long staff.
Michaelangelo - the party animal. He loves pizza more than anything. Mikey wears orange, and uses the Nunchuku, two small poles connected by a short chain. Also once called himself Michael J. Angelo.
Raphael - the one with attitude. He wears Red, and uses Sai, which are three blade weapons.
The Turtles fight the evil Shredder, his army of robotic foot soldiers, the evil brain Krang, and their two mutant idiots, Be Bop (a mutant warthog), and Rocksteady (a mutant Rhino.) The Shredder wants to rule the world, as does Krang, who work together to defeat the Turtles, and take over the world, using their massive fortress, the Technodrome (which the Turtles must defeat at the close of each season, banishing it to Dimension X, or some far off part of Earth, alternatively.)
During their adventures, the Turtles gain new allies, both human and mutant, and fight the Foot Clan, and other villains, be they mutant, human, or alien. The Turtles are originally considered a threat, but after saving New York quite a few times, they eventually become heroes to the humans.
The series lasted about 9 seasons. Towards the end, the Turtles went down quite a few notches in public opinion. The last two seasons dealt with a new enemy, Dregg, an alien who convinces the world he is good, and that the Turtles are evil. Now back to square one, the Turtles must win back their support, and defeat Dregg. The series ends with Dregg finally being defeated (Shredder and Krang are now held up in Dimension X), and the Turtles finishing their ninja training, now complete equals to Splinter. All in all a good show, the last two seasons featured less episodes a piece. But they show did well enough to do what few cartoons do, and that is change the format around. In this case, it was to give them new enemies to fight.

This is a Japanese Anime brought over to the US, Canada, and other countries, and dubbed. Anime is what Japanese cartoons are called, and feature more detail, violence, etc. The show is about a group of girls, the Sailor Scouts, who must defend the Earth from the Negaverse, and other aliens.
The story of Sailor Moon is that 1 thousand years ago, the solar system enjoyed a time known as the Silver Millennium. It was ruled by Queen Serenity, of the Moon Kingdom. But the evil Queen Beryl, escaped form her own dimension, and tried to take over our universe. During the battle, Queen Serenity realizes the only hope of survival is to send the children into the future. Defeating the Negaverse, and imprisoning 7 of the worst monsters in her Silver Emperium Crystal, she uses the last of her strength to send the children to safety, but erases their memories first. She also sends two cat guides, Luna and Artemius, to reactivate the Sailor Scouts, should the Negaverse ever resurface.
Now in our time, the Negaverse is back, and trying to drain energy from humans to increase the Negaforce's own power. So the Sailor Scouts are revived and together with Tuxedo Mask, they fight to protect their universe, and prevent another destruction similar to what happened to the Moon Kingdom.
There are many different adventures and enemies, with various on going story lines. First there was the fight against the original enemies from a thousand years ago, and the search for the missing Moon Princess. Then came two new aliens, and a time traveling child looking for the Silver Emperium Crystal, and enemies form the Nega Moon, who followed her.
I have only been able to see the first 82 episodes. For this reason, I will limit the major cast to the first 5 Scouts, and the plots to the first three story lines that I saw.
The good guys consist of:
Sailor Moon - the Moon Princess. A clumsy crybaby, she is the leader of the Sailor Scouts. She uses her Silver Emperium Crystal, and various wands, to destroy Negaverse monsters, and change evil beings to good (sometimes changing monsters back into people.)
Sailor Mercury - the brains. Mercury uses a computer and visor, and has bubbles to confuse the enemy. She is the Princess of the planet Mercury.
Sailor Venus - Princess of the planet Venus, she uses her crescent beam to attack enemies.
Sailor Mars - Princess of planet Mars. She and Sailor Moon are always at odds with one another. She uses a fire attack.
Sailor Jupiter - Princess of planet Jupiter. She knows Martial arts, and thinks every guy reminds her of her old boyfriend. She uses a lighting attack.
Sailor Saturn - Sailor of Destruction. She once was possessed by Mystic 9, the Sovereign Of Silence. She can destroy the world. Princes of the planet Saturn.
Sailor Uranus - dresses like a guy. Her attack is a ground splitting attack. Her Pure Heart Treasure is a dagger. Cousin of Sailor Neptune. Princess of the planet Uranus.
Sailor Neptune - Her attack is a water attack. Helped her cousin Sailor Uranus to become a Sailor Scout on earth. Her Pure Heart Treasure is a mirror. Princess of the planet Neptune.
Sailor Pluto - Guardian of time. Uses a powerful blast attack. Her Pure Heart Treasure is a crown like thingie. Princess of the planet Pluto.
Sailor Mini Moon - Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Mask's daughter, from the future. She time travels back in time for various reasons. She is the princess of Crystal Tokyo.
Tuxedo Mask - AKA Prince Darrein, of Earth. Sailor Moon's betrothed. He shows up just in time to save the Scouts, and throws roses at his enemies.
Luna and Artemis - talking cat guides, sent to guide the Scouts, and reactivate them if the Negaverse ever attacked again.
The plots were the Scouts fighting evil. I view each new enemy as a different plot, sort of like a bunch of miniseries. The first plot involved the origin of the Scouts, and the final defeat of the original enemies. It seems a thousand years ago, they lived on the moon. Sailor Moon was also Princess Serena, and the other Scouts were princesses of their respective planets, and served under Serena's court. Serena fell in love with Prince Darrien of Earth, and they were betrothed. But an evil from another universe attacked. Led by Queen Beryl, the Nega Verse attacked Earth, planning to go for the moon next, whose defeat would enable the conquest of the rest of the universe. Having all but succeeded on Earth, Beryl goes to the moon. Darrien goes to fight, but is defeated. Serena tries to save him, and is nearly destroyed. In order to save everybody, Queen Serenity has to send the children of the moon to Earth, and sends them to the future as well, but with no memories of their previous lives in the Moon Kingom. Though defeated in the process, the bad guys regain enough power in the present, and continue their conquest of the universe.
Fortunately, Serenity sent her tow cat advisors, Luna and Artemis with the children, to find and reactivate the Sailor Scouts if need be. Finding the five of them, the Scouts continue the battle on Earth. They also revive Darrien, who now calls himself Tuxedo Mask when in hero mode. Together, they stop Queen Beryl's four henchwarriors form draining human energy to launch their final attack. Along the way, our heroes memories return, just as Darrien is captured and brianwashed. So Sailor Moon strives to free him somehow.
It ended with Day Of Destiny, where the Scouts fight their final battle. Though Darrien is freed, all the Scouts and Tuxedo Mask unfortunately die. However, the enemy is defeated, the team's secret identities are revived, and they continue life without their memories.
The next plot showed what the future held. While Serena and Darrein were together in a park, a little girl, Rini, drops out of the sky. She has come back in time to find the Silver Emperium Crystal. She is also being pursued by 4 sisters and one guy from her time, all hailing from the Nega Moon. Also, strange dreams cause Darrein to break up with Serena. The Sailor Scouts manage to convert the 4 sisters to the side of good, but still must deal with the Nega Moon Family. After the 4 sisters go good, their boss, Rubeus, is defeated, and Emerald takes over. She tries to use pieces of the Dark Crystal to destroy the Earth, but the Scouts always triumph. Finally, our heroes return with Rini to the future to help save Rini's mom (and meet Sailor Pluto, who guards the doorway of time for all eternity. Meeting up with her dad, King Of Earth, he reveals that he was sending Darrein the nightmares. It was a test to see if he truly loved Serena enough, for far more worse things shall happen to the two of them. He also reveals what is going on. It seems that in the future (for the Sailor Scouts), the Earth will become frozen, due to an environmental catastrophe. Hundreds of years later, Sailor Moon will free everybody with the Silver Emperium Crystal. But evil enemies from beyond the universe attack. The Sailor Scouts win, and Sailor Moon uses the Silver Emperium Crystal to change some of the enemies good. Unfortunately though, not everybody is ready to make the change, and they head out into a galaxy cloaked in darkness, and set up residence on the hidden moon, Nemesis. But over time, they want to regain their lost world and attack (Nemesis is made up of dark power, which it's inhabitants soak up over time, becoming powerful beings.)
Meanwhile, Crystal Tokyo has been created, and Serena and Darrein (now known as Neo Queen Serenity and the King Of Earth) rule. They marry, and have Rini. Right before the attack, Rini is playing with the Silver Emperium Crystal, and it vanishes. The Nega Moon Family sends a sleeping spell to Earth, putting everybody to sleep. When Neo Queen Serenity is next, the Sailor Scouts set up a force field, but inadvertently trap Serena inside a glass box, while the spell puts her to sleep. The only way to free her is with the Crystal. So Rini was sent back 1,000 years to retrieve it. Agreeing to help, our Scouts fight against Prince Diamond, leader of the Nega Moon Family. Unfortunately, Diamond's advisor, Wise Man, captures and brainwashes Rini turning her into Wicked Lady, an adult Rini (in Japan, she was Dark Lady, a much cooler name).
Heading back to the present, Diamond and Wicked Lady nearly destroy the Earth. Fortunately, when Sailor Moon tries to free Rini, she inadvertently frees Neo Queen Serenity, who goes back in time, sort of merges with Sailor Moon, and frees Rini. Serenity returns to the future, leaving Moon to battle the ultimate menace. For Wise Man is really the Doom Phantom, and he plans to destroy the Earth. He used the Nega Moon Family for this purpose, and kills off Diamond. But the freeing of Rini has weakened Sailor Moon too much, so once again, she becomes Neo Queen Serenity, who is strong enough to battle. Meanwhile, Rini discovers that the Crystal entered her, and uses it to help her mom battle. With two Silver Emperium Crystals, and the other Scouts, the Doom Phantom is destroyed, the Earth (both past and future) is saved, Serenity becomes Moon again, and Rini returns to a happy future.
Note: To make things really confusing, the future is one thousand years later, in the 30th century, yet much happens in too short a time. The Enemies are defeated, head to nemesis, soak up power over the years (Diamond is shown as a boy in one flashback), and attack. Meanwhile, the Scouts grow up, Serena and Darrien wed and have Rini, who is like 6 or 7 when she time travels, and yet Diamond is older than the good guys. There is no way all this could happen within the time I takes the teenage Scouts to become adults. It would take nearly a century for all this to happen, yet no one is older than a few years, say maybe a decade's worth of time (my numbers may be off, but it's just an estimate to show how time is used all wrong for this story.) Also, the Nega Moon Family act like they once lived on Earth, and were banished when they didn't go good, yet King Of Earth says they come from beyond the universe (or some such, non Earth place.) Though whatever their true origin, and whatever the true timeline is, it's still a good story, and funny how Sailor Moon takes a thousand years to be able to defeat the Doom Phantom, with some help.
The next 37 eps involved a mysterious scientist who needed to steal people's pure heart crystals to help take over the world. To that end, he founded the Bureau Of Bad Behavior, and had 6 Witches to do the stealing. each Witch would take a Diamond Heart Snatcher to get the Pure Heart Crystals (PH Crystals). He needed 3 special ones, to become Pure Heart Treasures (PH Treasures) - a mirror, a dagger, and a crown thingie. Together, they would form the Purity Chalice, and allow the Sovereign Of Silence to rule the Universe in evil, darkness, and silence. So the Sailor Scouts battel the Diamond Heart Snatchers, keeping the PH Crystals from them. They are semi joined by Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto, who are on their own mission, to use the 3 PH Treasures to help keep the Universe free. But no matter who gets the 3 PH Treasures, 3 people must die. These three scouts are also known as the Outer Scouts, and were charged with protecting the Solar System during the Silver Emperium from outside evil forces (OK, so the Negaverse sorta snuck in through Earth, being in another dimension and all.) The Inner Scouts (Technically, Jupiter should have been an Outer Scout, as in real life, the inner/outer planets are divided by the Asteroid Belt.) are joined by Rini, back from the future to get some training, and make some friends (being a princess in the future gives her a less than normal life.) Rini now becomes Sailor Mini Moon. She befriends a young, sick girl named Hotaru, who is actually Sailor Saturn (Sailor OF Destruction since she can save or destroy the world.) She's also Mystic 9, the Sovereign Of Silence. Her dad, Dr. Tomoe, is the mad scientist. They were in a lab accident, and the only way to save her was for him to let his body be used by evil. Germinator took over him, Mystic 9 took over Hotaru, and they planned to give the Purity Chalice to Pharoah 90 to rule the Universe. Sailors Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto have the 3 PH Treasures, but their PH Crystals are separated from them, they live, and Sailor Moon uses the Purity Chalice to become Super Sailor Moon. In the end, Hotaru becomes Mystic 9, Germinator is defeated, Pharoah 90 get the Purity Chalice, Hotaru is killed, Sailor Pluto returns to guard time, and Sailor Saturn and Super Sailor Moon save the day. Hotaru is reborn as a baby, and an amnesiac Dr. Tomoe raises her anew. Sailors Neptune and Uranus challenge Sailor Moon to a fight to prove her worthiness to one day rule, and swear allegiance once she does.
The next 38 eps (And the last English dubbed ones) is about the Circus Of The Dark Moon, lead by Zirconia, who wants to capture a special Pegasus who has a magic crystal for a horn on his head. With Pegasus' powers, Zirconia can rule the world. However, Pegasus lives in the dreams of one special person. To find that person, Zirconia transforms three animals into humansesque warriors, called the Amazon Trio. Now, Hawkseye, Tigerseye, and Fisheye capture people, make their dream mirrors appear, and enter them to search for Pegasus (causing the person much pain.), while sending shadow creatures known as Remulises after the Sailor Scouts. However, it's Rini who has the beautiful dream Pegasus lives in. And he helps out the Sailor Scouts by giving them Super powers all the time. So now Sailor Moon immediately transforms into Super Sailor Moon, as do Rini and all the Scouts now. Eventually, the Amazon Trio is killed, and Pegasus revives them, turning them into real humans. He takes them to live in a dark forest, until it can be restored again. The Amazon Quartet take over, while Zirconia talks with his boss, Queen Neherenia
, about finding the Golden Mirror in which Pegasus lives in. Once Pegasus' powers are theirs, the Kingdom Of The Dark Moon can return to reign. It then turns out that Pegasus is really Helios (the Guardian of the Golden Crystal, and of dreams), who lived in Eilesian, the land of dreams (where Prince Darien once ruled). When the Circus invaded, Eilesian was trapped in spider web's, and the whole land was trapped in darkness, and Helios was captured. Rini's Dream Light (light of a very special person's dream) turned him into Pegasus. So now Pegasus is trying to find the one to use his Golden Crystal for good (Rini), and to stop Neherenia
from using it to trap the universe in perpetual darkness. Also, it's learned that a Dream Mirror can be destroyed, which leaves it's occupant unconscious.
Interestingly, even know Serena, Darrien, and Rini know they're a family, they barely act like they know it. At one point, Darrien does introduce them as his future wife and daughter, but strangely, it's not met with as much skepticism as expected (though it's not believed at all.)
I also read up on the rest of the Japanese series. There were several movies made (I believe they are available on video now), and Sailor Moon has to destroy the ultimate evil. Also, Sailor Moon goes through one more transformation, becoming Eternal Sailor Moon. The show lasted 200 episodes (though only two years pass in their time), and wasn't exactly canceled. Just that the creator decided it was time to do new things. Sailor Moon is divided into different ep categories. The first plot line is Sailor Moon, the next two (Doom Tree/Nega Moon Family) is Sailor Moon R, Diamond Heart Snatchers is Sailor Moon S, and the Dream Hunters is called Sailor Moon Super S. The last series (34 eps long) is Sailor Moon Sailor Stars. That has yet to air in the States. Sailor Moon is very popular, with comics, movies, CD's of it's music and a live action show once. People dress up as characters for Halloween, and I have seen pics of boys dressing up as Sailor Moon. I only hope that the US one day decides to buy and dub the rest of the series.

TRANSFORMERS

Transformers is about a group of robots, Autobots, from the planet Cybertron fighting an evil group called the Decepticons. Both sides can transform into vehicles, cities, and animals. For years, both sides struggled, until a fight caused them to crash onto Earth. 4 million years later, they are rebuilt into Earth vehicles and reactivated. They continue the war, with several humans joining the Autobots.
As the show became more popular, a movie was made, taking place in 2000 AD. In it, the Autobot leader is killed, and the biggest and baddest transformer ever, Unicron (who transforms into a planet!) transformed several Deceptions, including their leader, into new, more powerful robots.) He then set his sites on Cybertron, for his next meal (Unicron eats other planets.) The new Autobot leader defeats him, and wins the war against the Decepticons.
A new series was created, and took place several years later. Though defeated, a and living on a barren world, the Deceptions still caused trouble. Adding to that are the Quintisons, who originally made the Transformers as robot only slaves, and the reactivated Unicron (now just ahead). The show ends with a group of Autobots and Deceptions accidentally being sent into deep space, and landing on a planet. The inhabitants, the Nebulons, are engaged in their own war. The Transformers team up with both sides, and complete an ancient saying "To all are one." That is done by allowing the Nebulons to enter their heads or weapons. The Nebulons can control the weapon, or Transformer, and the head /weapon can become a suit for the inhabitant to wear, making the Nebulons transformers as well. Adding to that, both a good and bad guy city is transformed into a transformer. After a battle, the Deceptions and their new allies decide to head off into space to conquer it, leaving the Autobots and the good Nebulons alone at last.
The series has been followed up by Beats Wars Transformers. Set 300 hundred years after Transformers ended, the Decepticons' descendants, the Predacons, steal a golden disk, and the Autobots' descendants, the Maximals, try and stop them (now all the Transforrmers are human sized, for some unknown reason). Passing through a spacial anomally, they crash land on a two mooned planet, somewhere back in time. The over abundance of raw Energon forces them to take on the forms of local animals, and so they beast wars begins. As time goes on, they meet up with formless aliens who seeded the planet with Energon, and who want to destroy the Transformers and the planet for ruining their experiment. Instead, most Transformers gain new metallic bodies, and vehicle transformations in addition to their beast modes. They also learned that they are on Earth, about 4 million years into their past. The Maximals must now protect the Autobots' crashed ship, until they are revived in the present, thus keeping history on track.
All in all, it's not such a bad show. While it is never explained why they're are new Transformers, or what they originally transformed into, if anything, it is a worthy follow up to the original Transformers. This is also a computer animated cartoon. Beast Wars is rated
The next incarnation is Beast Machines (due to syndication in other countries, which don't like war in show titles, one universal name was needed). While traveling back to Cybertron, after the events of Beast Wars ended, Megatron escapes, and drops out of transwarp (a warp through time and space) prematurely, and arrives back at Cybertron long before the Maximals. Deciding that organic life is inferior, he develops a way to purge himself of his Transmetal alterations, and his dragon beast mode. He then decides free will is also no good, and that Cybertron would bets be ruled by one mind only. So he creates a virus, which quickly infects the planet. He then removes everybody's sparks (robotic souls), and controls drones called Vehicons himself. When the Maximals arrive, he shoots them down, detransmetalizes them (they keep their original beast modes), captures two of them, and infects the other 4.
The Maximals, now divided and infected, find themselves inexplicably back on Cybertron, with no memory of how they got back. They can't transform out of beast mode, and they are under attack by mindless drones. Plus, all life is gone. They realize they have been infected by a virus, and escape underground where the oracle (previously Vector Sigma), an ancient entity, reformats them. It merges their biological beast modes with their inorganic robot selves, creating technorganic creations. Worse, they lost their ability to transform. Leader Optimus Primal figures out they must concentrate, and learn to transform as their ancestors did the very first time ever.
As if all this wasn't enough, they soon discover arch nemesis Megatron, claiming to have won the Beast Wars (he really lost), now rules Cybertron. And that two Maximals are missing. And slowly piece together that Megatron is to blame. Worse (yes worse), he wants to purge the Maximals of both their organic parts, and liberate their sparks, leaving them as mindless as his Vehicons. But unable to stop the Maximals (an entire planet, yes. 4 robots who transform into animals, no), Megatron gives sparks and minds to 3 drones, creating generals for his cause. The Maximals then discover that the three sparks used were former Maximals, including their missing crewmates. Megatron erased their memories, but the Maximals learn they can help make them remember. When the generals want to.
Fortunately, the Maximals discover they are undetectable in beast mode, and gain a new ally, who survived the quick mass spark liberation, and somehow got a beast mode. Optimus reformats him as well, and together the 5 try and find a way to stop Megatron, and free their fellow citizens. They later learn that Cybertron was once a living planet, and Night Scream got his bat mode form a fossilized bat, which they later discover, along with other fossilized organics, and a strange goo that can renew organic life. Now they must return organic life to Cybertron, but Tankor, now back to being Rhinox, wants to carryout Megatron's plans, but with himself as ruler. To this end, he has stolen the key to Vector Sigma, and can now turn organic life into robotic life.
During the ensuing fight, Rhinox is killed, Optimus Primal learns he must bring balance to Cybertron, not restore it to it's old organic self. To that end, he becomes guardian to Technoganic plants. Megatron, meanwhile, separates his beast mode form his robotic mode, but gets trapped within the beast. Now, he's a dragon who can strangely transform into a wolf. eventually escaping his body (who still lives for a while with the two beasts modes, and rudimentary intelligence), he takes over a giant version of his head, which can become a ship.
Jetstorm becomes Silverbolt again, in a new technorganic body, and Megatron gains two new generals, formerly Cybertron's top two strategists. The Maximals gain an alley in Botanica, a Maximal with a plant mode, who takes over caring for the plants.
In the end, Megatron steals the sparks of the maximals, gains himself anew (albeit copied) body, and he and Optimus fight their final battle. Optimus knocks them both into the organic ooze, as Megatron tries to turn him robotic, and in the ensuing explosion, Cybertron becomes covered with technorganic plants, all the Transformers' sparks are returned (how their damaged bodies are repaired is unknown), and they cheer their Maximal saviors. The Maximals mourn for the loss of their leader, than realize he was always meant to do this, and would forever be with them in spirit.
Whether or not peace will now reign is left to the imagination of the viewers, though in light of recent events, I'm sure the Maximals and Predacons will finally learn to get along. Also, the technorganic aspect finally fulfills the old prophecy (since the movie, anyway) "To all are one!" For now, all are truly one. Technorganic that is. Organic and technological combined.
The new beast modes (of Beast Machines) are very realistic looking, though the robot modes leave much to be desired. Also, Transformers lore consists of the cartoon version, and comic version, both of which have been used. So there's a little discrepancy in origins between the two CGI shows, and the cartoon. All in all, another good series, though beat Wars was a better successor to the Transformers name. All Beast Wars inspired questions have yet to be answered. And worse, the new CGI sequels combine aspects of the original cartoon and comics, thus creating contradictions. Beast Machines is rated
As for the Japanese version, they had their own Headmasters and Targetmasters, and brand new Transformers (o longer nay of the old familiar faces), a cartoon Beats Wars happening the same time as the CGI one on Prehistoric earth, and for a while, only existed in magazines, before returning as Transformers: Car Robots, where Predacons or whoever go back to 2000 AD Earth to detsroy the Autobots, and new Maximals or what have you go back, too, disguised as Earth vehicles, and being giant robots again. They also try and hide from their ancestors (this is a throw back tot he glory days of the Transformers.) Also of note, the Japanese recycled the names, so there were many Optimuses, Megatrons, etc., though not the same robots.

This is a show about 5 people, the Voltron Force, who control 5 robotic lions that merge into the giant robot Voltron. An evil, 1000+ year old tyrant named Zarkon, is trying to rule the universe. All that stands in his way is the Planet Arus. He comes very close to conquering it, now that he has "destroyed" Voltron. So the Voltron Force is sent to bring back Voltron, who wasn't actually destroyed, just separated into 5 robot lions. With Voltron's aid, Zarkon's RoBeasts (giant monsters) are defeated time and again. Eventually, he calls on his son, Lotor for help, but Voltron is always victorious, no matter how powerful the latest Robeast is. It is unclear how the series actually ends. There is reason to believe the series was shown out of order, with the 4 part finale being shown as the end of season one. I have elected to base the series timeline as season one (minus the 4 part arc), season two, a special one hour episode, and finally, the 4 part series finale, as that makes most sense. So along those lines, the series ends with Lotor becoming king, while Zarkon goes into hiding, and Voltron destroys Castle Doom. Lotor flees in his ship, vowing revenge. The Voltron Force ponders what their next assignment will be.
In the fall of 1998, Voltron returned as Voltron: The Third Dimension, a computer animated series. The show picks up 4 years after Voltron ended (still not following the series end or the 4 part story arc.) It seems that shortly after the end of the series, Lotor and Zarkon (now working together, unless they patched things up after the first season) returned with a rebuilt Castle Doom (unless they did this already after the first season), and a whole new fleet. They started building new, more powerful weapons, but were defeated. His own ship damaged, Lotor crashes and is badly hurt, though he is still able to make Castle Doom disappear. Galaxy Garrison recovers his body, and rebuilds him as a cyborg, then ships him off to a prison planet. Hagar goes into hiding in the dream dimension, the Voltron Force breaks up, and several members are reassigned. Most surprisingly of all, Zarkon, suddenly overjoyed in seeing his badly hurt son saved, actually goes good, claiming to have finally seen what a life of evil truly brings. Back in the present, Zarkon, now Minister of Peace, Princess Alura, and Keith head over to the prison planet to try and talk some sense into Lotor, but discovers that he has escaped. Now free, Lotor finds new allies, and becomes a space pirate, attacking other ships while he tries to rebuild all that he has lost. So the Voltron Force is called back into action. But things look grim as Lotor teams back up with Hagar (now without her cat), and gets a new Castle Doom (Hagar says she made a new one, and hid it in the dream dimension, though it seems like Lotor sent it there himself). This new castle comes complete with RoBeasts, and flies about space while traveling through portals to save time. Now the Voltron Force must try once again to defeat Lotor, and bring peace back to the universe.
This new series is a pretty good follow up to the original Voltron, and the compute graphics are good. There are several changes though. The Voltron Force's uniforms' Colors now match their lions, and they have helmets shaped like lions heads (I hate em.) There's a new Castle of Lions, and a new way to reach the little vehicles used to reach the lions. The little vehicles themselves have changed to look like little pods, and are each members' respective color, as well as the lions controls. The keys are also color coordinated, and work slightly differently. The lions now move more like real lions, which is cool. They also have a new sequence to form Voltron, both in the controls and the order in which the lions merge. Voltron has new attacks/defenses too, like a shield The lions also have new weapons as well. The Voltron Force always wears their uniforms as well. This series also promises to delve into the myth and magic of Voltron, unlocking new secrets about the mighty robot, and each individual lion, which contains a sentient spirit. But Zarkon's secretly working with Lotor and Hagar, and eventually take over Galaxy Garrison. The Voltron Force defeats them, but Zarkon escapes with the best weapons, and knowledge of the defense systems, thus escalating the war big time.
Also, no matter which ending is used, Zarkon and Lotor still reteam, their past feud behind them. Most likely, the 4 part story arc is the true ending. Lotor reteams up with Zarkon, undoubtedly claiming to have gone along with the ruling to keep the Drools happy. Together, they rebuild Castle Doom, and start work on the fleet and new weapons before Lotor's ultimate defeat. Of course, this is just my opinion, and might not be right, though I blame the usual lack of continuity for it.
There was another Voltron cartoon show, which was about a group of vehicles which formed another Voltron, but I never cared much for it. The reason for two Voltrons is that one protects the part of the Universe where Earth is, and the Lion Voltron protects the other side of the Universe (there was a third Voltron in the toy line, made up of three robots.) The Vehicle Voltron fought a race of aliens who had some sway over Zarkon (he was an outlaw of their empire), and who were trying to find a new planet to live on, as theirs was going to explode. Vehicle Voltron Force eventually learns all this, and helps move the aliens to a new home. Both Voltrons even teamed up in a one hour special, to fight their enemies, who had teamed up. Also of note, the two Voltrons are connected in another way. Two brothers are each a member of the different Voltron Forces.

This is a show about a group of half cat, half human survivors of the Planet Thundera, which blew up. Landing on Third Earth, they carry on the code of Thundera - Truth, Honor, Justice, and Loyalty. Unfortunately, their enemies, the Mutants of Plundar follow, and team up with an ancient evil: Mumm-Ra, the Ever Living. The Thundercats, however, find allies on their new home, an work together to help protect their new friends from their enemies.
The Thundercats consist of:
Lion-O - the leader and lord of the Thundercats. He uses the Sword of Omens, which contains the eye of Thundera, to fight the bad guys, and call on the Thundercats whenever he needs help (though 9 times out of 10, after he calls for help, he solves his problems himself anyway, but it did cause the Mutants to panic, and set themselves up for defeat.)
Panthro - the strongest Thundercat. He built their vehicles. The best of which was the Thundertank. He also uses nunchukus.
Cheetara - the fastest member. She can run super fast for five miles in one burst. She also contains a psychic curse, which lets her see into the past, though at great costs to her health. She uses a staff that can shrink and enlarge.
Tigra - the architect. He designed their base, Cats Lair. He also possesses vast mental powers, enabling him to create life like images (He never used this gift, because he had to save it up for Lion-O's annointment to become their lord officially.) He uses a bolo whip.
Wily Kit and Wily Kat - sister and brother, twins. They excel at cunning. They ride around on hover boards Panthro built, and use pellets that have different results to fight their enemies.
Snarf - a snarf. Though not much of a fighter, he can communicate with many of the creature son Third Earth.
Though the Thundercats posses unique abilities, as their lord, Lion-O in fact, surpasses each one of them in their respective skills (except Snarf.)
Their allies are:
Jaga - the old Lord of the Thundercats. He died en route to Third Earth, and appears a spirit that only Lion-O can see and hear. Jaga gives Lion-O advice.
The Snarves - peaceful creatures who can't become evil. Long ago they became the constant companions and caretakers of the Thundercats. Snarves are raised to serve the Thundercats.
The Berbils - robotic teddy bears. These peaceful beings left their own world to live on other worlds. Some came to Third Earth, and set up a village there. They are one of the Thundercats' best allies, and helped build Third Earth's Cats Lair.
The Warrior Women - Women who live in the tree tops. Their society have no men. They are all formidable warriors.
Mandora - an evil chaser. She's also a space cop.
Hatchetman - a samurai warrior. He usually gets tricked by Mumm-Ra into attacking the Thundercats.
Snowman - ruler of Hook Mountain. He rides on a giant cat, named Snow Meow.
The Tuska Warriors - a race of walrus people. They are lead by Tuska. They fly around on dragon like beings.
The Thundercats enemies are:
Mumm-Ra - a mummy. He calls upon the Ancient Spirits of Evil to transform into Mumm-Ra the Ever Living. He is very powerful in this form, and can only be defeated by seeing the true evil of his own reflection. Mumm-Ra is a very powerful sorcerer, and can transform into anything he wants. As long as evil exists, Mumm-Ra will live.
Grune - an ex-Thundercat. He was Jaga's friend until he went evil. Banished, he wound up on Third Earth, where he terrorized the locales. Finally defeated, he is now an evil spirit.
Slithe - leader of the mutants (all of whom are listed next). He is some sort of mutant lizard.
Monkeyian - a monkey mutant.
Jackelman - a mutant jackal.
Vultureman - he creates all of the mutants weapons. He is a mutant vulture.
Rataro - once Slithe's superior. He flies around in the Ratstar, and uses two Sai's to float people around with, or attack like lasers. He is a mutant rat.
After the series ended, a made for TV movie, Thundercats Ho, revived the series again. In the movie, three Thunderian refugees are discovered to be living on an island with two Berbils. The mutants capture of them, and the Thundercats go to recuse their countrymen, who can take care of themselves. The Thundercats defeat Mumm-Ra, and Lion-O makes the refugees Thundercats. In this movie, it is revealed that the Thundercats are noblemen (sort of like nights.) Also, Mumm-Ra's faithful, mummified dog, Ma-Mutt is introduced.
Luna and Ahmut - Luna is the leader. She rides around on Ahmut, a great beast who is quite strong.
Chilla -she can freeze anyone or anything.
Tugmug -he can jump great heights and distances, and has an antigravity/immense gravity gun.
Red Eye - he has infrared eyes.
Aluro - he uses a psi orb to hypnotize people into doing whatever he wants, like surrendering..
The Lunatacks main base is Sky Tomb, which can fly. Interestingly, all the Lunatacks have horns on their heads, looking like a crescent moon stuck in each their heads. They could only be defeated by getting them to argue amongst themselves. Whenever they worked together, they were unstoppable.
The movie ended with the Lunatacks posing a new threat, and Mumm-Ra regaining his powers, and more. No longer is he bothered by the site of his own reflection.
The new series involved the usual fights against the god and bad guys. Later, Thundera was reformed, and the Thundecats divided their time between Third Earth and new Thundera. The Mutants and Lunatacks were captured by a space circus owner, though occasionally they returned to cause trouble. Meanwhile, Mumm-Ra set up shop on new Thundera, and competed with the Thundercats to recover the Treasures of Thundera. After the Thundercats got their treasure back, they began welcoming back refugees to their newly reformed home world. But New Thundera was now under the influence of the Moons of Plundar, making the Thundercats need special equipment to survive; some of which simulated the Lunatacks' powers.
The series ended with the Thundercats racing against time to free their world from the Moons of Plundar's influencing, climaxing in a great battle between Lion-O and Mumm-Ra. Lion-O wins, and new Thundera's effected areas were fixed. The Thundercats prepare for the future, fully knowing evil would still plague them, in whatever form it so chooses, and that Mumm-Ra would return. But they knew they would win, as long as they obeyed the Code of Thundera.
Although it is indicated that Third Earth is in fact Earth, it is not clear when in time it is. Although there are ruins of a great city, and pyramids, and evolved animals (indicating a futuristic time, perhaps long after some great war), there was also a cave man shown, indicating a more past like time. Perhaps it is so far into the future that nature restarted again (even though the Warrior Women were still human.)
ReBoot was a show done with computer animation (first ever!). It was about the lives of beings living inside a computer. The citizens would go about their lives, talking in computer jargon, and trying to avoid the dangers. The dangers were two virus, trying to take over, and the games, which was when the User would play a video game.
The good guys were:
Bob - A Guardian, number 452. He defended Mainframe, and won all the games. He used a key tool called Glitch to aid him. Glitch could transform into various needed things. They merged together for the last 5 episodes.
Dot Matrix - Bob's unofficial girlfriend. She owned a diner.
Enzo - Dot's little brother. He worshipped Bob, and dreamed of being a Guardian one day. Became Matrix the Renegade in Season 3.
Frisket - Enzo's dog.
AndrAIa - A game sprite, who escaped the game world to live in Mainframe. Enzo's girlfriend.
Phong - A wise old timer, he helped guide Bob.
Mouse - A mercenary. She knew Bob from before he came to Mainframe.
Ray Tracer - AKA Web Surfer. Ray is a Search Engine who travels about the Web, and visits other systems. Appears in last half of Season 3.
The bad guy were:
Megabyte - An evil virus. He wanted to take over Mainframe.
Hexidecimal - Megabyte's sister. She too, wanted to rule Mainframe.
Hack and Slash - Two robot like things (most Mainframe citizens were robot like things) who served Megabyte. Were rebuilt as good guys in the last 3 episodes.
The Web - This part of the Internet was a bad thing, as the Web invaded other computer systems, and took it over. Worse, any one caught in the Web would devolve.
The User - Humans. Basically, they played games, and would be seen in the form of a game sprite. They would battle the computer people in video games. Some think the User is only a myth.
Whenever a Mainframe citizen lost a game they would become a null (like a worm.) Dot's father was working on an experiment, which backfired big time, causing all the sprites (young citizens) to be destroyed. Only Enzo survived. Rebooting was a gaming term. When inside a game, by saying Reboot, and double clicking your icon, you would gain knowledge, weapons, and clothes (based on each game) to help you compete against the User.
The series ended it's US run with the Web invading Mainframe. The good and bad guys teamed up to defeat them. They used a device to erase their systems web address from the Web's memory. Unfortunately, the viruses ambushed Bob, and sent him into the Web before erasing the address. This left Enzo as the only Guardian left to save Mainframe from Megabyte and Hexadecimal's take over. It continued in other countries (recently shown in the US in syndication on Cartoon Network, Spring'99), with 4 four part stories, but all were basically connected, and followed each other immediately, except for the second one, which took place about a year later. In this, the last season, Enzo tried his best to be a Guardian. But without training, and Megabyte's propaganda against him, he barely was able to rally Mainframe's citizens behind him. After finally winning their respect, Enzo fights a game he cannot win. In order to avoid being nullified, Enzo, AndrAIa, and Frisket change their icons to game sprite icons, and then travel the Net, visiting other systems, and trying to find Mainframe. The second story line begins with a total departure from the original series. A now grown up Enzo and AndrAIa (games compile much faster, causing premature aging), with Frisket, travel about the Net, using the games as a way to reach other systems, as they attempt to find their way back home. Enzo has now become Matrix, a renegade who's overly aggressive, and full of hate. However, the two try and help out in whatever system they land in, helping make things better for many citizens. The third story line had Enzo and company learning that a super virus known as Daemon has infected the Guardian Collective, and only Bob remains free. So they decide to find a way into the Web and rescue Bob. Teaming up with some old pirate friends, and Ray Tracer, our heroes enter the Web. There, AndrAIa is injured, and Bob finds them and saves her. He has since teamed up with devolved sprites, known as the Web Riders, and they head back to Mainframe. The final story line has them return safely home. But Mainframe has been destroyed, and is know a dying system. While they were a way, a war broke out between Megabyte and Hexadecimal, and Megabyte took over the town. Reuniting with their friends, our heroes prepare for the final fight. Enzo and Megabyte fight, but Megabyte activates his final trap. He starts a total system crash.
Their only hope for survival is to let the User win the next game, and hopefully cause a system wide restart. Unfortunately, that's not guaranteed to work.
After the final episode ends, we are treated to an opera summary of Season 3 (and the last episode of Season 2), which nicely explains the major points thereof. Personally, I think they were too hard on Enzo, who did the best he could, considering he was 1) a little boy (like maybe 10), and 2) had no Guardian training whatsoever. Also, Bob is never mentioned outside the song to be called Interface while in the Web. Still, it was a very good finally, the backgrounds matched previous eps beautifully, the dance numbers were good (especially the beginning of the final story arc summary) and the song was in tune to "I Am The Very Model Of A Modern Major General" from "Pirates Of Penzance"
Then came the fight with Daemon, and her true plan to destroy the Net was revealed. It took Hexadecimal's sacrifice to stop her. After their victory, Bob was all set to marry Dot, when a second Bob appeared. It soon became apparent that a backup of Bob was created when he wnet into the web, but which Bob is the copy? Adding to the complications, GlitchBob began to decompile. A desparate attempt was made to save him, and Glitch separated form Bob, and revealed the new Bob was Megabyte, who became a Trojan Horse type virus in the web. That meant he could take on any form he wnated, and he's out for revenge. Taking over the Principal office, Megabyte prepared for the infection of Mainframe.
Then the series just hangs there, hopefully to be resolved in a Season 5.
All in all, a very good series. I didn't like the turn it took in the final season, with Enzo becoming Matrix, but alas, it was necessary for the final fight against Megabyte (though it was still the best season of all, minus that one complaint.) The Daemon story line is still left wide open, and the narration at the show's opening was never even followed through. During the first two seasons (I never saw the third's opening, for when the us got it, Cartoon Network opted to show scenes from the show, in place of an opening, as they do with all shows), Bob explained things, and was interested in finding out if the User actually existed. It's a shame the series always had him assume one existed. I would have liked to see Season's 3 opening. A good thing, however, was the games of Season 3, which parody music videos, TV shows, movies, and other cartoons. Season 2 did have a nice X-Files parody though, complete with Gillian Anderson voicing her X-File's Binome counterpart. But apart from the above complaints, it' a great series, with excellent animation, and two nice twists at the very end). Definitely, as their saying goes, Alphanumeric!
There will be two Reboot TV Movies. They shall be broken down into 8 eps, comprising a Season 4. The first is called Daemon Rising, and shall pick up where Season 3 left off. THE second is unnamed. They will also shock viewers by answering several long standing questions. The TV Movies will air Spring and Fall 2001. First in Canada (where it's a definite), then in the USA (plans being finalized). More info as it develops, but be sure and check out http://www.mainframe.ca, where all new info shall appear first.

Exo Squad is about a special space military unit in 2020. They use a special exoskeleton frames called E-Frames to travel about. An E-Frame is a metallic vehicle/suit one "plugs" into via a wire connection from the back of the head, to the on board computer. It then operates through both voice commands and just plain thinking. Also, mankind has genetically engineered a new race, called Neo Sapiens (big, blue humans with 4 thumbs, and who don't sleep), which they use as slaves to help terraform Mars (Venus has already been terraformed, and people now live there.) Tired of this, the Neo's revolted 50 years before hand, but were stopped by the earlier versions of E-Frames. In 2020, a Neo name phaeton decides to try for freedom again. He successfully takes over the home worlds, enslaving humans on all three planets. Mankind's only hope is the Exo Fleet, which are the space ships Exo Squad uses. The show focuses mainly on Able Squad, lead by J.T. Marsh. The first season was mainly about the attempts to reclaim the home worlds, culminating in a mutiny and all out attack on Earth. This fails when the leader decides to speed ahead, taking only half the fleet. Then came a rescue attempt of a brilliant scientist. Finally, the only chance left is an attack on the Neo breeding grounds on Mars. It is successful, but leaves Phaeton with the dreaded Auto Mutation Syndrome (a Neo disease that causes them to lose molecular cohesion and become a puddle of goo.) The second season was much better. Exo Squad teams up with their long time enemies, the Space Pirates. These Pirates were once workers who were exiled from the home worlds. They fled into deep space. There, they discovered the 10th planet, Chaos, and it's secret. Chaos is composed of Dark Matter, which can bend light around it, and thus cloak anyone or thing. Sharing their technology, Able Squad gains a great advantage. Their E-Frames are further equipped by new weapons, giving a better advantage. However, Phaeton uses genetic engineering to develop the Neo Megas (brilliant Neo Sapiens), Neo Warriors (half Neo, half deadly Earther predator), and finally, the Neo Lords (the strongest, toughest Neo's ever.) The Neo Megas proves unreliable, and plot to over throw the original Neo's. All but one are destroyed. Meanwhile, Able Squad is slowly but steadily reclaiming all that humanity has lost. Venus is liberated, Mars is destroyed, and finally, with the help of various resistance, Earth is liberated in a 5 part story arc. The series ends with Humans ready to end the breeding of Neo Sapiens, but one good Neo (part of Able Squad), explains why his people are so lost, and convince the humans to make one last batch of Neo's, with one key difference. This last batch is to be given the ability to reproduce. As time goes on, Mars is miraculously reformed, and the pirates prepare to move from Chaos to Mars. While overseeing the fair distribution of stuff, J.T. Marsh is called upon to investigate a strange comet. This comet can travel faster than an E-Frame at it's max, and attacks J.T. when he gets too close. Then it spins around Chaos, constantly increasing speed, until it literally devours the planet whole. It pauses in front of J.T., seemingly taunting and gloating, then heads back to whence it came, namely an alien ship. As the aliens hip flies onward, it is joined by two more, and all three head towards the sun, and onwards to Mars. There were talks of a movie, but that seems to have fizzled. Whether the aliens are good or evil is unknown. Perhaps they will befriend the home worlds, or perhaps humans and Neo's will have to learn to get along in order to fight their new common enemy. Interestingly, in the video "trading cards" at the end of each episode, Admiral Winfield, leader of the Exo Fleet, talks about joining forces with the pirates to defeat a common enemy, and ponders if one day humans and Neo's will have to do the same. Coincidence, or a guy with a really big mouth?
These shows follow the adventures of the Saiyan Goku, Earth's most powerful warrior. It begins with Dragonball, and a 12 year old Goku, who is amazingly strong for a normal kid. He joins Bulma on a quest for the 7 legendary Dragonballs, rumored to provide one wish to whoever asks, by summoning the Eternal Dragon. Goku must battle variuous enemies after the Dragonballs. Goku, however, only has interest in the 4 star Dragonball (each ball has a different set of stars on them, from 1-7), given to him by his grandfather. Making things harder is the fact that the balls scatter after the wish, and turn into ordinary stones for a year before becoming active again.
Dragonball Z follows the adult Goku's exploits, as he constantly defends the Earth from evil aliens or the occasional Android. Together with his friends, Goku make sup the Z Fighters, a name usually referred to in the opening or closing narration, and previews of the next episode.
Saiyans are aliens from the planet Vegeta (once ruled by Vegeta, who had a son named Vegeta, who became semi good and a Z Fighter.), which has 300 times Earth's gravity, thus making them strong on Earth and other worlds. Now only Goku and Vegeta remain, though Goku has two half Saiyan half human sons, and Vegeta just one.
Goku and the others also frequently die. Thanks to the magic of the Dragonballs, they can be revived, so death isn't so permanent anymore.
Dragonball Z is followed by Dragonball GT, a show not aired in the US as of this time.
